Bee-eaters mostly inhabit Europe’s warmer parts, however successfully breeding pairs have also been spotted in the Netherlands. Bee-eaters feed on insects and are skilful aeronauts. They are able to catch larger insects in full flight. They are mostly found on steep banks alongside water; rivers, pools and lakes, where they excavate nest tunnels in steep walls.
