Nuthatches exhibit highly individual behaviour, walking up and down tree trunks. These are hole-breeders, known for making the entrance to their breeding nests smaller by ‘cementing’ it in with mud. This urge to do the building work is sometimes so strong that even when the hole is the correct size they will continue cementing somewhere else.
