Unlike other finches the bullfinch does not live in large groups but prefers pairings or small groups. The male has striking reddish pink and black markings, but you will probably locate it easier by its call: a soft whistling sound. Bullfinches inhabit mostly woods, parks and gardens and prefer to remain under cover. They will often perch still for minutes on end.
