The greenfinch’s name is pretty descriptive: recognisable by the range of shades of green in its plumage. The greenfinch originally inhabited forest edges and semi-open border vegetation. Now that this type of habitat has become rare, the greenfinch has moved on to mainly cultural landscapes: provided of course there are plenty of dense shrubs around. Greenfinches feed on seeds. They use their strong beaks to vibrate the seeds while turning the fruit, releasing them from the husks before consuming.
