The hoopoe is a summer visitor preferring older, semi-open cultural landscapes on sandy soil. It nestles in the hollows of trees, walls, stone stacks and timber structures. Hoopoes forage for large insects and their larvae in lightly fertilised meadows and among arid vegetation with lots of open spaces.
