The wood pigeon is the largest and also the Netherlands’ most common pigeon. It is found in parks and gardens in towns, as well as on fields in rural areas. Usually they forage on the ground for food, or perch in trees loudly cooing. They generate considerable noise when taking off, because their wings flap against each other both above and below their bodies.
