Robins are often curious and trusting. Among their own species however both male and female can be highly aggressive, defending their territory throughout the year. The process often involves a demonstration of their red breast feathers. Robins usually build well-concealed nests on the ground. The young don’t have the red breast. In winter, part of the robin population migrates to the warmer regions of Europe, where food is more plentiful. And birds from more northern/north-easterly regions move south to arrive in the Netherlands. Robins will reward you with their charm if you feed them in winter, preferably with dried mealworms, uncooked oatmeal or a mix of seeds.
